Privacy
Short version: the calculators run entirely in your browser. We never see the pet details you type unless you deliberately ask us to email you a result. We don’t sell personal data.
Who we are (the data controller)
Fur Forecast is an independent site published by the operator of furforecast.com, who is the data controller for everything described here and decides why and how it is processed. For any privacy, access or deletion request, email hello@furforecast.com — we action deletions within 30 days and confirm when it is done.
What stays in your browser
Every figure on this site is computed locally in JavaScript from data already downloaded with the page. Weight, life stage, breed, coverage choices and everything else you enter into the insurance, feeding and cost tools are never transmitted to us. Saved results are kept in your browser’s localStorage on that device only, and clearing site data removes them.
What we store if you use “email me this”
Only if you choose that button do we receive anything. We then store one record — your email address, the single result you saved, its label, and a timestamp — in Cloudflare Workers KV. That record is deleted automatically one year after it is created. We use it to send you the result and to let you reopen it from the link in that email; we do not add you to a mailing list and do not email you again.
The link in that email contains a random identifier and is the only key to that saved result: anyone holding the link can open it, so treat it as private and don’t forward it. Reopening a save returns the result only — never the email address.
Processors we use
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN and the Workers KV store that holds saved results. Cloudflare processes request data (including IP address) to serve and protect the site.
- Resend — delivers the “email me this” message when that feature is enabled. It receives your email address and the result.
- Google AdSense — serves the advertising on this site and may set cookies or use device identifiers, including for personalised advertising where permitted. Google’s handling is governed by its own privacy & terms for partner sites; you can review and change your ad settings at My Ad Center.
- Affiliate partners — following a clearly-labelled affiliate link takes you to a third party that may set its own cookies to attribute the referral. Their policies apply once you leave this site.
Your choices and rights
To have a saved record deleted before its automatic one-year expiry — or to ask what is held against your address — email hello@furforecast.com and we will action it. Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to processing of your personal data; we honour those requests regardless of jurisdiction. You can remove device-local saves yourself at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
Where your data is processed
Our processors are US-headquartered and operate global networks, so a saved record and the request data behind it may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where you are in the UK, EEA or Switzerland, those transfers rely on the safeguards each processor publishes for international transfers — Cloudflare, Resend and Google each maintain their own transfer terms, which their privacy policies set out in full. We do not transfer saved records to anyone beyond the processors named above.
How long we keep things (retention)
A saved record is deleted automatically one year after it is created — that expiry is set on the record itself when it is written, not applied by a later clean-up job. Device-local saves stay in your browser until you clear this site's data. We do not keep a separate copy of your email address outside the saved record.
Children
This site is intended for adults planning pet care and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update this page and its “last reviewed” date.
